easyJet has revealed its plans to expand its operations in the UK by establishing a new three-aircraft base at London Southend in March next year. This move is expected to generate approximately 130 direct job opportunities for pilots and crew members in the UK and numerous indirect employment prospects.

This strategic decision reflects easyJet's ongoing commitment to growth within the UK market. The airline recently launched a base at Birmingham International Airport and is now seizing key growth opportunities across its network.

The investment in a 10th base in the UK, equipped with three 186-seat Airbus A320neo aircraft, will further solidify easyJet's presence and enhance its ability to meet the travel needs of UK consumers. The airline already operates international routes from London Southend to popular destinations such as Amsterdam, Geneva, Faro, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga, and Paris Charles de Gaulle and has served over 7 million customers from London Southend since commencing operations in 2012.

With the planned addition of more aircraft, easyJet will introduce six new routes, including Pisa (Italy), Gran Canaria (Spain), Dalaman (Turkey), Antalya (Turkey), Marrakech (Morocco), and Enfidha (Tunisia).

In addition, easyJet holidays will be available for purchase from May 17, 2024, with departures starting from May 1, 2025. This means package holidays from London Southend will be accessible seven days a week, with flights set to go on sale in the coming months.

John Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, stated:

"We are thrilled to be expanding our presence at London Southend Airport. This investment will create hundreds of jobs and provide more choice for consumers with new routes and package holiday options."

John Upton, CEO of London Southend Airport, added:

"We're excited to welcome an easyJet base to London Southend, supporting and creating hundreds of local jobs as well as connecting people to a wide range of travel destinations. This move will significantly benefit our community, driving economic prosperity and convenience for travellers."
