Icon Park Attraction to be Demolished Following Fatal Accident

The Attraction has remained closed since the incident took place back in March this year

Icon Park has released confirming the fate of the Orlando Freefall Attraction, which has closed following the death of a 14-year-old boy. 

On the 24th of March 2022, Tyre Sampson fell to his death after slipping out of the rides restraint system failed to keep him in his seat. Subsequent investigations by police and safety investigators found that the teen did not comply with the height and weight requirements suggested by the attraction's manufacturer. 

Orlando Freefall has now confirmed the attraction will be removed after only being in operation for less than six months. ‍

The attraction said in a statement:

"We are devastated by Tyre's death. We have listened to the wishes of Tyre's family and the community and have decided to take down the FreeFall," said Ritchie Armstrong with Orlando Slingshot. "In addition, Orlando Slingshot will honour Tyre and his legacy in the classroom and on the football field by creating a scholarship in his name."

Icon Park supported the decision to close the ride while keeping their carefully maintained distance as a landlord to independent ride operators.

"Tyre's death is a tragedy that we will never forget. As the landlord, ICON Park welcomes and appreciates Orlando Slingshot's decision to take down the ride,"
