Magic Kingdom Ride Closes after 34 Years in Operation

The attraction experienced long queues as riders wanted to experience the ride for one last time

We all knew it was coming, but yesterday Splash Mountain closed for good. Yesterday's queue times reflected guests' emotions, as for most of the afternoon, ride-goers had to wait three and a half hours to experience the attraction one last time. With many other queues for merchandise, including the Splash Mountain Penny Press.

Splash Mountain was themed to the 1946 Disney Film "Song of the South" and was popular with park-goers. However, the attraction has been at the centre of controversy over the past few years due to its connections with Black-African Americans and Slavery. With Facebook groups and protest pages, pro and against the attraction have been set up. However, the attraction's link to the film is ultimately the reason for the re-theme of the water ride.

Princess Tiana Retheme

Tiana's Bayou Adventure will take guests on a journey where you'll join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.

Charita Carter, the Executive Producer of Relevancy and Activations at Walt Disney Imagineering, said the following:

"This attraction is going to be gorgeous at night. Fans will meet all-new, original characters as Tiana realizes she's missing one key ingredient for a recipe!

The attraction is due to open in 2024.

To coincide with the attraction closing, the 'Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah' song has also been removed from Magic Kingdom Entrance Loop
