All you need to know about the Disney Genie+ changes just announced

Disney has made some big changes to Disney Genie+

Walt Disney World has updated the pricing structure for its Genie+ service, which may offer guests cheaper options depending on their preferences. However, this requires more advance planning.

Genie+ allows guests to access Lightning Lanes (previously known as FastPass) at certain attractions for shorter wait times for a set fee. Previously, it was one price for all-day access to any of the four theme parks.

From the 27th of June 2023, guests purchasing Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app will have to decide if they want to purchase it for one park or multiple parks. There are two potential benefits to this new option. Firstly, if a guest only wants to visit one park, and that park is one of the less expensive ones, it may be cheaper than the old option. Secondly, during busy times, if one park becomes too crowded, Disney can stop the sales of the package for that park without affecting other parks.

Disney has said the following:

"As we recently shared, we are working on ways to simplify the Disney Genie+ service, including offering the ability to plan before the day of your visit, which many Guests have asked for. We plan to share more news in the future, but in the meantime, we also want to improve the experience for guests using the service as it exists today, so we will be making an update as we continue to listen to guests."
"Beginning the 27th of June, Guests at Walt Disney World will now purchase Disney Genie+ service based on how they want to visit. Guests will be able to select either a single-park option or a multiple-parks option, subject to availability. With this update, prices may now be lower at some Walt Disney World theme parks compared to others. Guests will continue to be able to purchase Disney Genie+ service through the My Disney Experience app on the day of their visit."
"We will continue to listen to guest feedback, and look forward to sharing more information about updates to Disney Genie+ in the future."

The cost of Genie+ varies daily and will continue to do so. According to Thrill-Data.com, prices have ranged from $15 to $35 per day so far this year. On the 27th of June 2023, the prices will be:

- Multiple Parks option: $27
- Magic Kingdom: $27
- Epcot: $18
- Disney's Hollywood Studios: $24
- Disney's Animal Kingdom: $16

If a guest only wants to use Genie+ at one park, it's cheaper to purchase it for Epcot or Animal Kingdom, based on the prices from the 20th of June 2023. Guests with Park Hopper tickets or annual passes may as well purchase the Multiple Parks option.

Guests can purchase Genie+ for one park and then purchase it for another park later, but that will cost more than the Multiple Parks option. Disney Guest Services may be able to help with switching without additional charges, but refunds are not offered via the app.

Disney is currently working on more Genie+ enhancements for 2024.
